Lighthouse in Inktense Paint by Julia Woning

What you will need:

I love to play with colour and water. So the Derwent Inktense paints are one of my favourites to use. For today I have chosen to paint a lighthouse. After I have lightly sketched the scenery with a pencil, I go over the outlines with a black Line Maker, leaving the clouds in graphite pencil. I will start to create the colour I want in the paint pan mixing palettes, before I start to paint the sky.

Lighthouse Drawing One

Drawing the outline and painting the sky

Then add the shade of the clouds under the blue sky. Be aware that when you touch the wet surface, it will mix, so leave a line of dry paper between the sky and the cloud shadows.

Lighthouse Drawing Two

Add in the cloud shadow

Then I add colour to the buildings and landscape with a different Derwent Push Button Waterbrush. There are several sizes available and I’m using the Large Chisel Tip and the Large Tip for this piece. When the sky is fully dry, I can place colour in the water directly to the horizon.

Lighthouse Drawing Three

Adding in the rocks and buildings

Lighthouse Drawing Four

Adding in the water

Here is the final result.

Lighthouse Drawing Five

Good luck with practising with the Derwent Inktense Paint Pan Sets and enjoy creating – there’s always time to add a bit of colour to your life!
